Ian Dunn Specialist Periodontist

Topic: ‘S3 Perio Guidelines – What’s it all about?’ (pre-recorded virtual presentation)

Ian qualified from Leeds in 1998 and went into general practice in the North West. In 2001 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice. In 2002 he joined the teaching staff at Liverpool Dental Hospital in the Periodontology Department where he became the Undergraduate Teaching Lead in Periodontics and a Senior Clinical Teacher in Periodontics, a role he held for 5 years until leaving that position in 2018. In 2010 he completed his MSc in Periodontology and in 2013 he was admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Periodontics.

Ian is the Perio Lead for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and runs their short course in Periodontics and leads the Perio components of the FGDP Restorative Diploma. Ian spends three days a week in private practice in the North West of England where he takes referrals for all aspects of Periodontology. He is the British Society of Periodontology regional representative for Merseyside and Cheshire, and serves on their Council as Commercial Liaison Officer. In 2014 he was also elected to the BSP Faculty.

Melanie Pomphrett, Dental Hygienist

Topic: ‘Advancing your career as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist’
Focussing on postgraduate education, awards, opportunities beyond the dental surgery, raising your profile and working with the industry from someone whose job is to be actively ‘head-hunting’ future KOLs’

Melanie qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 2015 from the University of Essex and was named Best Hygienist at the 2020 Dentistry Awards and highly commended for Best Hygienist at the 2020 Oral Health Awards, she now continues to work part time in practice whilst also bringing her clinical expertise to the Philips teams as Professional Relations Manager. Melanie completed an MSc in Advanced and Specialist Healthcare (Dental Professional Practice) at the University of Kent in 2019, her research focused on the views of Dental Hygienists and Therapists on Direct Access, followed by a PGCert in Education in 2020. Melanie is also an ambassador for the BSDHT and is currently working towards a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing.

Cat Edney, Dental Therapist

Topic: ‘Implementing Dental therapy into private practice’

Award winning Dental Hygienist and Therapist Cat Edney has over ten years of experience working in specialist and private practice where she has developed a passion for Soft skills training and multidisciplinary team working in the Dental Setting. With a focus on providing personalised care for patients, she takes a holistic approach to dental disease prevention. Cat is passionate about full scope working for DCPs and has written for multiple dental publications as well as speaking on the subject of utilising dental hygienists and therapists in shared care set ups and under Direct access arrangements.

Lisa Moore, Dental Hygienist

Topic: ‘Getting your Prescriber onboard’

I qualified with a diploma in dental hygiene from GKT in 2003 and in 2010 I embarked on my facial aesthetic journey. Since then, I have kept current and undertaken many advanced courses and masterclasses including, advanced filler, toxin, and thread lift treatments. I now run my own aesthetics clinic in Essex, practising toxin, dermal filler, thread lifts and skin treatments such as chemical peels and needling treatment.

I have a great passion for my aesthetics work and my education. I always strive to keep up to date with new treatments and changes that are happening within the industry. I love teaching and find it very rewarding.

Nafisa Mughal, Dental Hygienist

Topic: ‘Getting your Prescriber onboard’

Nafisa Mughal is an aesthetics practitioner with a background in Dentistry. After qualifying in Dental Hygiene in 2008 at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital, she found herself increasingly drawn to facial cosmetic treatments. Nafisa is an enthusiastic aesthetics trainer and seeks to empower others with the knowledge and skills for them to be able to practice confidently on their own. She particularly enjoys training and mentoring other hygienists and therapists in this field and is friendly and approachable. Nafisa is passionate about empowering other hygienists and therapists and has written many articles in dental journals for other dental hygienists as well as co-authoring a book to inspire others to be the best they can be.

My husband and I attended the Accelerator Plus course in January. The course was extremely well organised, from models, the hotel stay and the dinner after. There were plenty of models (We treated 6 models each during the 2 day course - 3 for lip fillers and 3 for botox). We also watched our colleagues treating their models so we could learn from each other. The pre course information was so helpful and we liked that we knew all the theory before the course so we could get stuck in treating the models. We liked that the course is only open to Dentists, Doctors and Hygiene Therapists. We have launched our facial aesthetics brand this week 2 months after the course and we couldn't have done this without the support from the course and all the information from the BTC University. Thank you so much to Harry, Toni and Lyndsey. We can't wait to hopefully book onto another course with you soon!

Dr Harry deserves much more than 5 stars. I have done facial aesthetics myself but had a question and within less than 5 minutes of me sending an enquiry, Dr Harry himself called me personally to discuss the case and advise me accordingly. I was so pleasantly surprised at how prompt he was and the care he has for his patients and students. If you are a patient wanting facial aesthetic treatment or a clinician looking to train in facial aesthetics, look no further as you won’t get this kind of support anywhere else.

What a great course with a very professional team! It was a small group of attendees which was excellent, it felt like 1-2-1 learning.Harry and his team have truly dedicated themselves to helping dental hygienists and therapists hit the ground running in this field once the course has been completed. Hygienist Fast Track course is super comprehensive, the techniques are explained very well before the injection of different areas in the face, neck, hands. They say a good teacher can instill passion for learning and confidence. I totally agree in Harry's case. A very special mentor with lots to offer. The Accelerator course was crystal clear. All information supported by hands on practice on models. I already feel more confident. A very good foundation for further practice and learning. The venue in Gatwickwas easy to find. There is a support network and system after the course, including more educational materials, online groups and support via e-mail for more difficult issues. I wholeheartedly recommend the course and the trainer.

Informative and enjoyable practical experience with Dr Harry and Dr Toni at the Stevenage site. Toni was an excellent and experienced tutor and a safe pair of hands to work under. I felt confident with basic toxin and lip fillers the end of the two sessions.Food is provided and it’s of very good quality. Excellent post-course information and templates are all accessible online. There is easy access to the practice with safe parking nearby.Did my first case as soon as the toxin arrived from the pharmacy!

I was very reluctant to taking training in Facial Aesthetics. I signed up for the course, not knowing what to expect. I had heard numerous good things about Dr Singh on social media. The extraordinary thing about this course is that there is an online component. I was able to go through this at my own pace, so when I arrived for the hands-on training, I had firm foundations. The hands-on training is one to one, with the trainers observing everything you do and giving hints, guidance and reassurance. It is all good learning a new skill but implementing it in your practice can be hard. However, Dr Singh and his team share their years of expertise with you during the marketing course, which is invaluable.The post-course support is incredible. What's App groups to discuss cases and seek guidance. I have emailed Toni regularly for advice, and he has been exceptionally prompt in his help and guidance.
