Speakers
Ian Dunn Specialist Periodontist
Topic: ‘S3 Perio Guidelines – What’s it all about?’ (pre-recorded virtual presentation)
Ian qualified from Leeds in 1998 and went into general practice in the North West. In 2001 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice. In 2002 he joined the teaching staff at Liverpool Dental Hospital in the Periodontology Department where he became the Undergraduate Teaching Lead in Periodontics and a Senior Clinical Teacher in Periodontics, a role he held for 5 years until leaving that position in 2018. In 2010 he completed his MSc in Periodontology and in 2013 he was admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Periodontics.
Ian is the Perio Lead for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and runs their short course in Periodontics and leads the Perio components of the FGDP Restorative Diploma. Ian spends three days a week in private practice in the North West of England where he takes referrals for all aspects of Periodontology. He is the British Society of Periodontology regional representative for Merseyside and Cheshire, and serves on their Council as Commercial Liaison Officer. In 2014 he was also elected to the BSP Faculty.
Melanie Pomphrett, Dental Hygienist
Topic: ‘Advancing your career as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist’
Focussing on postgraduate education, awards, opportunities beyond the dental surgery, raising your profile and working with the industry from someone whose job is to be actively ‘head-hunting’ future KOLs’
Melanie qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 2015 from the University of Essex and was named Best Hygienist at the 2020 Dentistry Awards and highly commended for Best Hygienist at the 2020 Oral Health Awards, she now continues to work part time in practice whilst also bringing her clinical expertise to the Philips teams as Professional Relations Manager. Melanie completed an MSc in Advanced and Specialist Healthcare (Dental Professional Practice) at the University of Kent in 2019, her research focused on the views of Dental Hygienists and Therapists on Direct Access, followed by a PGCert in Education in 2020. Melanie is also an ambassador for the BSDHT and is currently working towards a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing.
Cat Edney, Dental Therapist
Topic: ‘Implementing Dental therapy into private practice’
Award winning Dental Hygienist and Therapist Cat Edney has over ten years of experience working in specialist and private practice where she has developed a passion for Soft skills training and multidisciplinary team working in the Dental Setting. With a focus on providing personalised care for patients, she takes a holistic approach to dental disease prevention. Cat is passionate about full scope working for DCPs and has written for multiple dental publications as well as speaking on the subject of utilising dental hygienists and therapists in shared care set ups and under Direct access arrangements.
Lisa Moore, Dental Hygienist
Topic: ‘Getting your Prescriber onboard’
I qualified with a diploma in dental hygiene from GKT in 2003 and in 2010 I embarked on my facial aesthetic journey. Since then, I have kept current and undertaken many advanced courses and masterclasses including, advanced filler, toxin, and thread lift treatments. I now run my own aesthetics clinic in Essex, practising toxin, dermal filler, thread lifts and skin treatments such as chemical peels and needling treatment.
I have a great passion for my aesthetics work and my education. I always strive to keep up to date with new treatments and changes that are happening within the industry. I love teaching and find it very rewarding.
Nafisa Mughal, Dental Hygienist
Topic: ‘Getting your Prescriber onboard’
Nafisa Mughal is an aesthetics practitioner with a background in Dentistry. After qualifying in Dental Hygiene in 2008 at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital, she found herself increasingly drawn to facial cosmetic treatments. Nafisa is an enthusiastic aesthetics trainer and seeks to empower others with the knowledge and skills for them to be able to practice confidently on their own. She particularly enjoys training and mentoring other hygienists and therapists in this field and is friendly and approachable. Nafisa is passionate about empowering other hygienists and therapists and has written many articles in dental journals for other dental hygienists as well as co-authoring a book to inspire others to be the best they can be.
