Learning To Upsell Botulinum Toxin Treatments

After delving into the facial aesthetics industry, one of the most important skills for a dentist to learn is upselling their Botulinum Toxin treatments. Your current patients are the best candidates for this new service, as they already know and trust your expertise. They will be an excellent source of referrals and continued business once they have experienced it for themselves.

It is important to know the proper way to recommend this treatment, however, as many patients may feel hesitant or sceptical at first. How do you make it sound natural, and avoid being too pushy?

The Right Way to Upsell Botulinum Toxin

The most important rule is to be tactful; you do not want to accidentally offend your patient when suggesting a Botulinum Toxin treatment. Phrase it carefully so that you do not make it sound as if the patient has a problem – this is their face you are talking about, after all. Refrain from directly pointing out their crow’s feet or frown lines, as that would be a recipe for disaster.

Instead, simply mention that you are now offering Botulinum Toxin treatments, and ask if he or she has experienced it before. This is a good start to the conversation regardless of what their answer is, and you will have the opportunity to educate them more about your new services.

Be sure to answer their questions, and address any common myths about Botulinum Toxin that they might believe. As with any other procedure, providing the facts can do wonders in alleviating a patient’s concerns and hesitation. If they have had Botulinum Toxin before from a different provider, make sure to ask about the results they had, and how satisfied they were with the treatment.

Another thing to note is that upselling also works with patients who are already coming to you for a Botulinum Toxin treatment. Perhaps they are only asking you to treat one portion of their face, but they could benefit from having a few lines erased elsewhere. If so, you may want to offer them a “freebie” at first, so that they can see how much of a difference it makes.
